Making A Difference

Blairsville Elementary School
2010 -2011 “Jump Rope for Heart

Blairsville Elementary School students recently participated in a “Jump Rope for Heart”
event during the week of Oct. 25th through the 29th . This event took place during the
students’ physical education classes. With the assistance of parent volunteers, students
participated in a variety of supervised jumping stations. During the week long event,
students had a lot of fun and got some great heart healthy exercise. Through our
students’ efforts, Blairsville Elementary School raised a little over $1200.00 for the
American Heart Association. This year’s theme was “Be A Heart Hero”. We were
jumping in honor of Kody Long, a first grade student at Blairsville Elementary School.
Kody was born with a hole in his heart and last June 10th he had to have a heart operation
at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh to repair that damaged heart. Kody has recovered
fully from his surgery and is back doing things that he loves to do, like playing soccer and wrestling.
